Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about AI search visibility, what Veenoa does, and what it doesn't promise.

01

What is AI search visibility and why does it matter for hotels?

AI search visibility is how often, and how accurately, a system such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI Overviews names and describes your hotel when a traveller asks a relevant question. A growing share of travel research now happens inside these systems, not a page of search results, so a hotel absent from an AI's answer is effectively invisible to that traveller. A hotel with great reviews and a good website can still be left out if the signals these systems rely on don't point to it.

02

How do AI systems decide which hotels to recommend?

These systems build their answers from your website, review platforms, OTA listings, travel press, forums and other public content that mentions your hotel. They weigh how often a name appears, how consistently it's described, and how trustworthy the surrounding sources are, then generate one answer rather than a ranked list of links. A hotel that's well documented across independent, credible sources is more likely to be named than one that only exists on its own site.

03

Can you guarantee my hotel will appear in ChatGPT?

No. Nobody controls the output of ChatGPT, Gemini, Google's AI Overviews or any other AI system, and any agency promising a guaranteed placement is misleading you. What can be promised is the work: auditing your current visibility, identifying the gaps, fixing the signals these systems draw on, and reporting honestly on what changes and what doesn't.

04

Is this the same as SEO?

No. Traditional SEO ranks a webpage in a list of results that a person then clicks through. AI search visibility is about whether a system names your hotel directly in the answer it gives the traveller. The two overlap, since a well-structured site helps both, but AI visibility depends heavily on third-party sources and consistency, which conventional SEO doesn't address.

05

What is schema markup and why does my website need it?

Schema markup is structured data in a website's code that labels what something is: a business, a service, a person, a set of questions and answers, using a shared vocabulary machines can read. AI systems and search engines use it to understand a page with less ambiguity than parsing plain text, which makes a well-marked-up site easier to cite and quote accurately. Without it, a system has to guess at meaning from unstructured text, which increases the chance of getting details wrong or missing the page entirely.

06

How long does it take to see results?

These systems learn from crawled content and mentions that build up over months, not days, so don't expect changes in the first few weeks. Early shifts in crawling and indexing typically take several weeks to appear. Changes in how consistently you're recommended usually take a few months to settle. Anyone promising rapid results doesn't understand how these systems actually work.

07

Do I need to rebuild my website?

Usually not. Most of the work is structured data, fixing crawlability, and strengthening the third-party sources these systems draw on, not a redesign. A rebuild is only needed if your site can't be read by crawlers at all, for example if its content only appears after JavaScript runs, since AI crawlers largely can't execute JavaScript, so a page that depends on it may as well not exist to them.

08

What does this cost?

There are three ways to work with Veenoa. The Snapshot is free, no cost, no obligation. The Audit costs $1,500, paid once, and is the full diagnosis of what's happening and why. The Work runs $1,750 to $4,000 a month, plus a one-time setup fee, scoped from what the Audit finds. Move from the Audit into the Work within 30 days, and the $1,500 is credited in full against your first month. This isn't priced for every hotel. It's built for hotels where a booking is worth enough that the return is clear.

09

What's the difference between the Snapshot and the Audit?

The Snapshot runs 15 queries and gives you a free, quick read on where you appear and where you don't. The Audit runs 50 or more queries across your full market, and goes deeper: which competitors are cited and why, which third-party sources shape how you're described, where every booking link actually leads, and whether your site can be read by these systems at all. It includes a 45-minute call to walk through the findings together, and its cost is credited back in full if you move into the Work within 30 days.

10

How does this affect our OTA commissions?

AI systems frequently cite OTA listings and directories rather than a hotel's own site, so a traveller who found you through an AI answer often still books through an intermediary paying 15 to 25 percent commission. Work that makes your own site the cited, trusted source moves those bookings direct instead. This shifts over months, not overnight, and as with being named at all, nobody can guarantee a specific outcome.

11

Who is this for?

This is for independent hotels and lodges across East Africa and South Africa: business, beach, boutique and conference properties, where a booking is worth enough and guests do real research before deciding. It's less relevant for businesses that compete mainly on price or where guests book on impulse, since AI-driven research matters less in those categories.
